What is GPP (General Physical Preparedness)?
GPP is any form of exercise that is not sport specific. At Epic Fitness Club, we feel that GPP is the best form of training for the general population and athletes alike. Training your entire body (and mind) is key. GPP can be accomplished by all the common forms of training including:
- Cardio
- Strength training
- Endurance training
- High intensity training
There are many forms of exercise and physical activities that fit into the above categories.
A common myth about sports performance
You don’t get better at a sport my trying to mimic a sport specific movement in training. You get better at sports by practicing sports. The neuromuscular pathways (think muscle memory) that are critical for sport performance are sport specific. You get better at sports by having a body that is trained and overall resilient. For example, you won’t get better at basketball by practicing jumping. You get better at basketball by using GPP to train your body for endurance and playing basketball.
